AMIN ADAM DEMANDS REMOVAL OF GOLDBOD, BOG GOVERNOR FROM BOARD

September 1, 2026

Former Finance Minister Dr Mohammed Amin Adam has called for the removal of the Ghana Gold Board, GoldBod, and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana from the GoldBod Board.

Speaking at a press conference, Dr Amin Adam questioned the continued presence of the Bank of Ghana Governor on the GoldBod Board, arguing that the central bank has been funding GoldBod while the operations of the gold-buying institution have reportedly resulted in losses for the country.

He said the arrangement raises concerns about oversight and accountability, particularly given the conflicting figures being reported on the financial performance of the gold programme.

Dr Amin Adam cited three different figures: the GH¢22 billion loss reported by the IMF, the GH¢9.05 billion loss reported by the Bank of Ghana, and GoldBod's reported GH¢5.45 billion surplus.

He said the wide disparity between the figures had created confusion and called for the accounts to be properly reconciled.

According to him, the New Patriotic Party supports a full parliamentary inquiry into the matter to establish the true financial position of the gold operations.

He noted that the Speaker of Parliament had already admitted a motion seeking such an inquiry.

Dr Amin Adam said the parliamentary process should help resolve the conflicting accounts and provide Ghanaians with clarity on the extent of any losses arising from the operations.

He maintained that the concerns surrounding GoldBod and the Bank of Ghana required proper investigation and accountability.
