Baffour Awuah justifies his resistance to EOCO’s arrest

Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has explained why he drove away after Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) officials attempted to take him to the Office.

According to the MP, he questioned why he was being taken to EOCO without a prior invitation, after an official claimed he had previously been invited but failed to appear.

He said he told the official that he was willing to follow them to EOCO in his own vehicle, but was informed that he would instead be forcibly taken in their vehicle.

Baffour Awuah said he then asked the official to provide evidence that she was an EOCO officer and also requested to see an arrest warrant. According to him, neither was produced.

He said the circumstances made him believe that he could be at risk, prompting him to drive away to a place he considered safe.

The MP described the incident as an attempt to take him away by force and alleged that it was similar to what he described as recent state-sponsored kidnappings.

He explained that his decision to leave was also influenced by his responsibilities to his constituents, the Minority Caucus and his family.

Baffour Awuah said he ultimately drove to safety because he believed he needed to protect himself while continuing to perform his duties as the MP for Manhyia South.
