Education Ministry to Engage GAUA, GTEC Over Strike

October 12, 2026

The Ministry of Education has invited the leadership of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to an urgent meeting on Monday, October 12, 2026, to find an amicable resolution to the ongoing strike action.

In a press statement dated October 11, 2026, the Ministry said the meeting would provide an opportunity for constructive dialogue between the parties to resolve the impasse.

The Ministry reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns of organised labour through established negotiation mechanisms and constructive engagement.

It also called on all parties to approach the meeting in good faith and with a strong sense of responsibility, considering the impact of the strike on students, university communities and the broader national interest.

The government further urged GAUA’s leadership to seize the opportunity for meaningful engagement and work collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to bring the industrial action to an early end.

The Ministry expressed optimism that the meeting would produce a positive outcome and facilitate a swift return to normal academic and administrative activities across affected tertiary institutions.

The statement was signed by Hashmin Mohammed, Press Secretary at the Ministry of Education.
