Gender Ministry mourns child killed in Cantonments fire

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has expressed condolences to the family of a young girl who lost her life in a fire incident at Cantonments in Accra.

In a statement issued on September 23, 2026, the Ministry shared its sympathies with the bereaved family and all others affected by the tragedy.

The Ministry said the incident highlighted the need for parents, guardians and caregivers to be more vigilant in protecting children from hazards at home and in other environments.

It urged households to keep matches, lighters and other sources of fire out of children’s reach, ensure electrical appliances and installations are safe, and avoid situations where young children may be left unattended.

Families were also encouraged to have basic fire safety measures and emergency evacuation arrangements in place, while teaching children what to do during emergencies.
