GH¢9.5 MILLION PACKAGE boost FOR PREMIER LEAGUE CLUBS
August 21, 2026

The Ghana Football Association has announced a GH¢9.5 million financial and incentive package for clubs ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku announced the package during the Association’s 32nd Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
Under the arrangement, each of the 18 Premier League clubs will receive GH¢1 million, while the eventual league champions will take home GH¢3 million in prize money.
The GFA said the financial support was aimed at helping clubs strengthen their operations and improve their competitiveness ahead of the new season.
The Association also recognised Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare as the Black Stars’ Best Domestic Player following his performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Asare was the only Ghana Premier League player selected for Ghana’s World Cup squad. He featured in three of the Black Stars’ four matches and kept a clean sheet in Ghana’s goalless draw against England. He will be rewarded with a new vehicle valued at 38,000 US dollars.
Meanwhile, Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has called on football stakeholders to look beyond financial support and focus on rebuilding Ghana’s domestic football industry.
He said Ghana had the talent, history, clubs, supporters and corporate sector needed to build a stronger football industry, but stressed the need to make better use of these resources.
The Minister called for improved player development, stronger clubs and efforts to make the Premier League more attractive to supporters. He also urged stakeholders to develop recognisable local stars who can generate excitement and interest in the league.
Kofi Adams further cautioned clubs against taking supporters for granted, especially as the Ghana Premier League competes for attention with the English Premier League, UEFA Champions League and various digital entertainment platforms.
The 2026/27 Ghana Premier League is scheduled to kick off on September 5, 2026, with 18 clubs set to compete for the league title and the increased financial rewards.
