Ghana, Norway strengthen bilateral cooperation

September 23, 2026

Ghana and Norway have held discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation, with a focus on trade, investment, energy and regional security.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York between Ghanaian officials and Norway’s Minister of International Development, H.E. Åsmund Grøver Aukrust.

The discussions focused on expanding trade and investment opportunities, particularly in oil and gas, renewable energy, artificial intelligence (AI) and agribusiness.

The two sides also explored ways to deepen cooperation in maritime security, education, skills development and business-to-business engagement.

Regional security developments in West Africa also featured in the meeting, including Ghana’s efforts to strengthen regional cooperation in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

The implementation of the Ghana–Norway Double Taxation Agreement was also discussed, alongside mutual support for international candidatures.

Ghana has accepted an invitation from Norway for an official visit later this year.

The engagement forms part of efforts by Ghana and Norway to deepen their bilateral and multilateral cooperation for the mutual benefit of both countries.
