GHANA PREPARES FOR AU CHAIRMANSHIP

August 23, 2026

Several committees have submitted their reports as Ghana steps up preparations to assume the chairmanship of the African Union (AU) in 2027.

The reports are expected to provide key recommendations and strategic guidance as the country prepares to take on the continental leadership role.

Ghana’s AU chairmanship will present an opportunity for the country to influence discussions on issues affecting the continent, including peace and security, economic integration, trade, development and regional cooperation.

The submission of the committee reports marks an important stage in preparations for the chairmanship, with stakeholders expected to use the recommendations to strengthen Ghana’s priorities and engagements within the AU.

As preparations continue, attention is likely to focus on ensuring that Ghana is adequately positioned to provide effective leadership and advance initiatives that reflect the interests and aspirations of African countries.

The 2027 chairmanship is also expected to strengthen Ghana’s diplomatic engagement across the continent and provide a platform for the country to contribute to efforts aimed at promoting unity, sustainable development, and closer African cooperation.
