Infinity 970 and Kofi Kommando Squad Extend Clean Air Campaign to Anunmle Cluster of Schools

Clean air advocacy movement Infinity 970, supported by the Breathe Cities initiative and in collaboration with the Kofi Kommando Squad, has taken its clean air awareness campaign to pupils across the Anunmle Cluster of Schools in Kisseman within the Okaikwei North Municipality.

Held at the school compound's football park, the outreach brought together local government officials, environmental health officers, educational directors, and basic school students to raise awareness about the health risks associated with airborne dust and urban pollution.

The campaign engaged students across four constituent basic schools within the cluster—Sackey Odoi Basic School, Nii Okine Basic School, Immaculate Heart Basic School, and Aggrey Basic School. Outlining the initiative's core mission, Executive Director of Infinity 970,

Barbara Davies, emphasized that instilling early environmental literacy in young learners is essential to driving sustainable community behaviors and curbing open waste burning. Addressing the gathering, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Okaikwei North, Hon. Christian Tetteh Badger, warned that severe dust exposure poses serious risks to human health, urging pupils and staff to actively safeguard their immediate school environment. Representing the Municipal Education Directorate, Samuel Owiredu Danquah, Human Resource Director for Okaikwei North, confirmed that clean air and environmental sanitation concepts will be systematically integrated into classroom instructional lessons across schools in the municipality.

Highlighting the strategy behind the collaboration, Irene Essel, School Health Education Programme (SHEP) Coordinator for Okaikwei North, explained that targeting school clusters allows health coordinators to turn pupils into clean air ambassadors who can carry environmental health messages back into their homes and neighborhoods.

To make the learning experience practical, the Infinity 970 team and Kofi Kommando Squad conducted interactive demonstrations illustrating proper health precautions during heavy dust conditions. Participating pupils who excelled in environmental quiz exercises and physical demonstrations were recognized with educational rewards.

The Anunmle Cluster of Schools, situated in Kisseman within the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly (ONMA), serves hundreds of basic school pupils across the Greater Accra Region. In unpaved urban school compounds, localized dust generation coupled with nearby refuse burning creates elevated particulate matter exposure, which increases respiratory illnesses among children.
