Mahama Champions Industrialisation Agenda at IFC Meeting

September 17, 2026

President John Dramani Mahama has held a high-level bilateral meeting with Makhtar Diop, Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), to discuss ways to deepen cooperation and transform Ghana’s economy.

The discussions focused on increasing commercial agriculture production, particularly in cocoa, oil palm and poultry, as well as advancing Ghana’s industrialisation agenda.

President Mahama reaffirmed government’s commitment to processing at least 50% of Ghana’s cocoa, agricultural produce and mineral resources locally to create sustainable jobs for the youth.

The meeting also explored opportunities under the Big Push programme to improve infrastructure, including railways, aviation and roads, alongside investments in energy, digital connectivity and education.

President Mahama further disclosed that Ghana, in collaboration with the World Bank, had secured a $300 million financing package to permanently end the double-track system in Senior High Schools by the end of 2027.

He also highlighted what he described as positive economic developments, including declining inflation, reduced national indebtedness and renewed investor confidence, following the economic challenges inherited by his administration.
