Mahama Nominates Dr. Ransford Abbey as CMC Board Chairman
September 3, 2026

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Dr. Ransford Anertey Abbey as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cocoa Marketing Company (Ghana) Limited (CMC), information reaching GN Media indicates.
Dr. Abbey is expected to replace the current Chairman of the CMC Board, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, MP, following the nomination by President Mahama.
Dr. Abbey maintains his position as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), where he currently serves as the head of the state institution responsible for the development and regulation of Ghana’s cocoa sector.
The nomination has also been communicated to the leadership of COCOBOD and the Managing Director of Cocoa Marketing Company (Ghana) Limited.
His expected appointment as Chairman of the CMC Board would place him in a key leadership position within an institution that plays an important role in Ghana’s cocoa industry, particularly in the marketing and export of cocoa.
The nomination comes as President Mahama makes changes to the leadership of key institutions within the cocoa sector.
However, details on when Dr. Abbey is expected to formally assume the CMC Board chairmanship have not been provided.
It is also unclear from the information available whether the nomination has completed all the required approval processes. Further details on the transition and the effective date of the appointment are expected to be communicated by the relevant authorities.
Dr. Abbey is therefore expected to continue serving as CEO of COCOBOD while taking on the proposed role as Chairman of the CMC Board, subject to the completion of the necessary processes
