Mahama swears in seven new Supreme Court Justices

President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday, September 10, 2026, swore in seven new Justices of the Supreme Court in accordance with Article 144(2) of the 1992 Constitution.

The seven Justices, all promoted from the Court of Appeal, were Justice Senyo Dzamefe, Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei, Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh, Justice Philip Bright Mensah, Justice Janapare Adzua Bartels-Kodwo, Justice Hafisata Amaleboba and Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo.

At the swearing-in ceremony at Jubilee House in Accra, President Mahama urged the new Justices to uphold the Constitution and ensure that their decisions serve the public interest and protect vulnerable members of society.

He stressed that the Judiciary has an important role to play in national development, protecting citizens’ rights and checking the abuse of power.

President Mahama also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to improving access to justice through the digitalisation of court processes, improved court infrastructure, expanded legal aid and public defender services, stronger judicial training and ethics, and closer collaboration between the Bench and the Bar.

Speaking on behalf of the new Justices, Justice Senyo Dzamefe expressed appreciation to the President, Parliament, Council of State and Judicial Council for their roles in their appointment.

He assured Ghanaians that the new Justices would uphold equal justice under the law and perform their duties without fear or favour.

The ceremony was attended by Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, other Supreme Court and Superior Court Justices, members of the Judicial Council, government officials, and family and friends of the newly sworn-in Justices.
