Mahama to Cut Sod for Three Regional Referral Hospitals

President John Dramani Mahama is expected to cut sod in the coming weeks for the construction of three 160-bed Regional Referral Hospitals in the Oti, Savannah and Western North Regions.

The projects form part of plans to expand healthcare infrastructure and improve access to referral services in regions without fully fledged regional hospitals. The 2026 Budget made provision for the commencement of the three regional hospitals.

The proposed facilities are expected to provide residents in the three regions with access to higher-level healthcare services and reduce the need for referrals outside their respective regions.

In the Oti Region, more than 100 acres of land have been secured for the proposed regional hospital in Dambai, according to the Oti Regional Coordinating Council.

The projects are part of the government’s broader plans to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve the distribution of specialised health services across the country.
