Morocco confident Hassan II Stadium will host 2030 World Cup final

President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, has claimed that the Hassan II Stadium in Benslimane will host the final of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Lekjaa made the statement at an event organised by Morocco’s Authenticity and Modernity Party in Bouznika on Thursday.

He declared that the Benslimane province would have the honour of hosting the tournament’s final, expressing confidence that the venue would be selected for the prestigious fixture.

However, FIFA has not officially confirmed the venue for the 2030 World Cup final. Morocco and Spain are currently competing to host the match, with Spain reportedly considering the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid.

The Hassan II Stadium, which is currently under construction in Benslimane, is a major part of Morocco’s preparations for the tournament. It is expected to accommodate around 115,000 spectators, which could make it one of the largest football-specific stadiums in the world.

Morocco will co-host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal, while Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay will each stage a centenary celebration match.

Lekjaa’s confidence comes from Morocco’s impressive performance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where the Atlas Lions became the first African team to reach the semi-finals before losing to France.

For now, however, the Hassan II Stadium remains Morocco’s proposed venue for the final, with FIFA yet to make a final decision.
