NDC COMMUNICATOR BLASTS FDA OVER CIGARETTE TOFFEE
August 31, 2026

NDC Communications Team Member Kojo Nhyira has criticised the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) over the circulation of cigarette-shaped toffees reportedly targeted at children.
Speaking on Anopa Bosuo on ATV, he questioned the effectiveness of the FDA’s monitoring and inspection activities, arguing that Ghanaians could be at risk if the authorities fail to properly protect public health.
He expressed concern that some FDA officials who conduct inspections at markets, hotels and restaurants may not be properly reporting their findings to their senior officers.
According to Mr. Nhyira, some officials allegedly focus more on making money during inspections than protecting the health of the public.
He questioned what happens after FDA officers visit these places for inspection and what information they provide to their superiors.
Mr. Nhyira said he was particularly angry when he saw the trending cigarette-shaped toffees being sold to children.
He added that if he had seen his own child with one of the toffees, he would have been so angry that he would have burned down the shop where the child bought it.
