New charges emerge in Wontumi’s GH¢30m EXIM Bank Case

The state has filed fresh charges against former Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, in the ongoing GH¢30 million EXIM Bank case.

The case concerns allegations surrounding funds obtained by Wontumi Farms Limited from the Ghana Export-Import Bank (EXIM Bank) for a farming project.

Prosecutors have accused Wontumi and his associates of offences including defrauding by false pretence, money laundering, uttering forged documents and causing financial loss to the state. Wontumi has denied the allegations.

The prosecution alleges that Wontumi Farms obtained more than GH¢14 million from EXIM Bank, while the facility later accrued to about GH¢30 million.

The fresh charges were filed after plea negotiations between the prosecution and the defence failed to reach an agreement.

The Accra High Court has adjourned the case to October 13, 2026, when proceedings will continue.
