Open burning poses health and fire risks – LADMA Municipal Health Director

The Municipal Health Director for the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LADMA), Dr. Caryn Agyeman Prempeh, has warned communities about the serious health and environmental risks associated with open burning.

Speaking to ATV during an educational campaign organised in partnership with Infinite 970 and Breathe Cities, Dr. Agyeman Prempeh said people who inhale smoke from open burning could be exposed to potential health risks.

She also cautioned that uncontrolled fires resulting from open burning can spread rapidly, potentially causing wildfires and damage to property and the environment.

Dr. Agyeman Prempeh urged communities to take the concerns raised during the educational campaign seriously and support efforts aimed at addressing the practice.

She said the engagement and action plan should serve as the beginning of a broader effort to eliminate open burning and promote safer practices within communities.

Dr. Agyeman Prempeh stressed that the health and environmental harm caused by open burning far outweighs any perceived benefits.

She called for continued community engagement and action to address the practice and reduce the risks associated with uncontrolled burning.
