Parents Decry Delays in SHS Self-Placement Exercise

Several parents have voiced frustration over delays and long waiting hours during the ongoing Senior High School (SHS) self-placement exercise at Ghana Hall in Accra, calling on the government and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to improve the process.

Some parents said they arrived at the venue early in the day but had to wait for several hours before receiving assistance. They described the situation as stressful and appealed to the authorities to streamline the exercise to ensure faster and more efficient service delivery.

Beyond the delays, some parents expressed disappointment over the placement outcomes. They claimed that despite their children obtaining good grades in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), they were not placed in any of their first to fifth school choices.

According to the affected parents, the outcome had left many families worried about securing suitable schools for their wards. They urged the GES to review the placement process and implement measures that would give qualified candidates a fair opportunity to gain admission into schools that match their academic performance and preferences.

The parents further appealed to the government to address the challenges associated with the self-placement exercise as a matter of urgency, noting that the current situation was causing unnecessary stress, inconvenience, and uncertainty for both students and their families.

They expressed hope that improvements to the system would make future placement exercises smoother, more transparent, and more efficient for all stakeholders.
