‘Powder Man’ bailed

Popular Black Stars supporter Kailani Ibrahim Kpa, widely known as “Powder Man,” has been granted GH¢400,000 bail by the Accra Circuit Court in connection with an alleged visa fraud case.

Kpa appeared before the court on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, following allegations that he collected money from several individuals after promising to facilitate their travel to Canada, Nicaragua and the United States.

The court granted him bail with three sureties. One of the sureties is required to be a guarantor, while the other two must be close family relatives.

According to the allegations before the court, Kpa collected more than US$30,000 from over 13 people after promising to arrange their travel. The arrangements allegedly failed to materialise, after which he reportedly went into hiding.

There are also separate claims involving another US$50,000, although the circumstances surrounding that amount are yet to be established in court.

Kpa was arrested on Monday, August 24, 2026, at East Legon in Accra by officers from the Documentation and Visa Fraud Unit of the Ghana Police Service Headquarters.

Following his arrest, Kpa denied stealing from anyone and said he had voluntarily reported himself to the police.

“I am the one who went to the police station; nobody came & arrested me,” he wrote in a social media post.

He also said he had transferred money received from individuals to travel agents, insisting that the funds were not with him.

Some individuals who claim to have paid money to Kpa have also spoken publicly about their experiences, with amounts reportedly ranging between US$8,500 and US$9,200.

One alleged victim claimed he sold his car after being advised by Kpa to do so, but was later told to wait for another visa arrangement.

Kpa became widely known during the 2026 FIFA World Cup after videos of him supporting Ghana’s Black Stars while spraying white powder went viral, earning him the nickname “Powder Man.”

The case has been adjourned to September 28, 2026.

The allegations against Kpa have not been proven in court, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
