The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Rockland Farms, Mrs. Edith Akosah Wheatland, has donated GH¢100,000 to support the organization of the 2026 National Farmers’ Day celebration, with the funds earmarked for the Best National Female Farmer award.

Mrs. Wheatland, who was named National Best Female Farmer in 2023, said the donation was aimed at encouraging past award winners and other stakeholders to contribute to the development of agriculture, particularly by supporting women in agribusiness. Presenting the donation to the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, she emphasised the importance of providing women farmers with access to finance, markets and modern technology to improve their productivity and business growth. According to her, empowering women in agriculture goes beyond supporting individual farmers, as it also benefits their families, communities and the future of food systems. “When you support a woman in agribusiness, you are not just supporting the woman; you are supporting her family, her community, and the future of food systems,” she said.

Mrs. Wheatland also encouraged previous female award winners to support upcoming farmers and contribute to efforts to strengthen women’s participation in the agricultural sector. Receiving the donation, Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, expressed appreciation to Rockland Farms and its CEO for contributing to preparations towards the 42nd National Farmers’ Day celebration. He said the Ministry was receiving financial and other forms of support from individuals, companies and organizations to ensure the successful organization of the event. The Minister assured the donor that the funds would be used for their intended purpose and contribute to the success of the celebration. He further underscored the importance of agriculture to national development, stressing that food production remained essential to the survival and progress of the country.

Mr. Opoku reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to working towards food self-sufficiency in Ghana, adding that the government remained focused on improving domestic food production. The annual National Farmers’ Day celebration recognizes the contributions of farmers and other stakeholders to Ghana’s agricultural development and food security.
