Strong Basic Education Will Help Ghana Develop – PPP

Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Eastern Regional Chairman, Amos Nkansah, says education is the root of Ghana’s development, and the country must train its children well to achieve progress.

Speaking on ATV’s Anopa Bosuo about the self-placement opportunity for WASSCE candidates with Grade 9, he stressed the need to strengthen basic education, explaining that if the basic school system was made formidable, senior high schools and tertiary institutions would also perform better.

Amos Nkansah noted that understanding the problem was part of finding the solution, and Ghana must look at the challenges within its education system from the basic level.

He proposed continuous education, where a child who did not pass the BECE would not be left at home waiting for placement but would remain in basic school until the child passes.

He explained that if students know the senior high school they are expected to attend after passing the BECE, it could help reduce the challenges associated with the current placement system.

According to him, in the past, students who failed to progress to the next class had to remain at that level until they passed, and a similar approach could be applied to basic education.

Amos Nkansah believed that making senior high school the minimum educational qualification for every student in Ghana would help improve the education system and contribute to the country’s development.
