VICE PRESIDENT DISMISSES 2028 AMBITION SPECULATION

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has dismissed speculation about a possible presidential ambition, saying the government’s focus should be on delivering on its mandate to Ghanaians.

Speaking in an interview, the Vice President said discussing future political ambitions could distract the government from addressing the challenges facing the country. Professor Opoku-Agyemang said Ghanaians voted for the government to solve the problems confronting the country, and that should remain its priority.

She stressed that her immediate focus is on supporting the administration to implement its policies and deliver on the promises made to the Ghanaian people.Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has firmly rejected questions regarding whether she intends to launch a presidential campaign, emphasizing that discussing future political ambitions distracts from the government's mandate to serve the public.

"The people of Ghana voted for us massively, and we remain grateful," Professor Opoku-Agyemang said. "They didn't vote for us today to be talking about going or not going. They said we should come and solve the problems." Addressing the economic and administrative challenges inherited by the administration, she argued that shifting attention toward future electoral bids undermines public trust and detracts from supporting the President's vision. She described premature political manoeuvring as a distraction from the work required to fulfill campaign promises, calling early speculation "a betrayal of the cause of the people."

The Vice President pointed to the extensive effort behind the governing party's platform, noting the years spent developing their manifesto through direct public engagements such as the candidate-led "Speak Out" tour. She noted that thousands of citizens contributed ideas to address national challenges, creating an obligation for the government to remain focused on implementation rather than political jockeying. Concluding her remarks, Professor Opoku-Agyemang reiterated her commitment to national development, stating that her personal priority is strictly cantered on delivering results for the country.
