YOU CAN’T BRING MORE THAN TWO PHONES INTO GHANA- GRA WARNS TRAVELLERS
September 2, 2026

Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Customs Commissioner, Aaron Kanor, has cautioned travellers against bringing multiple mobile phones into Ghana on behalf of other people.
According to him, while an individual may bring in a phone for personal use, carrying several phones belonging to different people could be considered a commercial activity.
He explained that a traveller can carry up to two phones—one for personal use and possibly another for a spouse. Beyond that, the items could be treated as commercial goods and attract the applicable duties.
Aaron Kanor therefore urged travellers returning to Ghana not to collect phones from several people to bring into the country on their behalf.
He noted that the latest iPhone and Samsung models are expensive, making mobile phones an important source of revenue for the state through applicable duties.
