ZANETOR TO LEAVE PAN-AFRICAN PARLIAMENT POST OVER MINISTERIAL NOMINATION

Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings is set to give up her position as Second Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament following her nomination as Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology.

She disclosed this when she appeared before Parliament’s Vetting Committee on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

The issue came up after Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin asked if she had already resigned from the Pan-African Parliament or planned to hold both positions at the same time.

Dr Zanetor explained that she would return to the Pan-African Parliament at its next sitting to officially submit her resignation.

The committee chair, however, clarified that she must first be approved by the Vetting Committee and confirmed by Parliament before she could resign from the continental parliamentary position.

Dr Zanetor was elected Second Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament on April 30, 2026, at a sitting in South Africa, securing 131 votes against 51.

Her election was later communicated to Ghana’s Parliament, with the Pan-African Parliament requesting that she receive ministerial-level protocols and privileges in line with African Union diplomatic arrangements.
